Search Engine Optimisationis like creating an equity stake in property. When you stop your SEO you still have a position in the rankings as this is your equity. You know exactly what your budget is so no sudden surprises unlike pay per click.

It can take a while to get ranked as there is a lot of ground work to be done. Typically for a local search term it can take around 12 weeks to get ranked. For a highly competitive keyword (search term) it can take a fair bit longer. If you don't start your SEO now then in 2 years time you can guarantee your competition will be way ahead of you and it will be difficult to catch them up if they are still optimising their site.
