PS3 Repair

Do you have a problem with your PS3?

imageThe PS3 console has by far the most realistic graphics compared to any other consoles on the market today. Unfortunately this comes at a price; as the console works so hard the graphics chip is prone to overheating.

This is known as the yellow light error, gamers have dubbed this problem as "yellow-light-of-death". It usually means your PS3 has overheated and caused a hardware failure, we repair this fault onsite and can have your console back up and running the same day or next working day.

Sony is aware of the overheating problem with their consoles; they offer a repair service too. If the fault occurs outside of the 12 month warranty they will send you a refurbished console and charge you £128 for the privilege, obviously you will lose all of your saved data and games. The Sony lead time for their service is from 4-6 weeks.

There are lots of tips and videos online on how to repair yellow light errors which are from the ridiculous as wrapping your console in a duvet and causing it to overheat to using cheap heat guns.  We would highly recommend you do not follow these quick fixes; apart from the obvious health and fire risk you can cause more damage to your console deeming it irreparable.

Here are some tips about prolonging the life of your PS3:

    • DO - bring it to Crawley Computer Centre for a health check.  We can dismantle it safely to remove any build up of dust and give advice on upgrading internal cooling mechanisms; prolonging the life of your console and saving you money.
    • DO - keep the PS3 in a well ventilated area so that heat disperses.
    • DO - limit your gaming time to about 5 hours allowing your console to cool regularly.
    • DON’T - place it on the carpet whilst in use.  It can act as an isolator which may cause your PS3 to overheat, it will also draw in dust and fluff from the carpet into the fans and console.
    • DON’T - put your PS3 at the back or in a cramped TV/media cabinet as the restricted airflow will act like an oven
    • DON’T - store your PS3 in the hot spots of your home i.e. in direct sunlight or close radiators.
